The current use of pharmacodynamic (PD) biomarkers in clinical trials has greatly increased the amount of mechanistic data that can be collected. Pharmacometrics Ltd offers a number of powerful software tools that can aid in interpreting biomarker data and increasing its predictive power.

Pharmacometrics is the application of mathematical techniques to the study of drug action, to assist the interpretation of biological data, and applying that data to predict how to use drugs more effectively. Two main mathematical disciplines are employed: biostatistics, and modelling. Increased emphasis on measuring biomarkers in clinical trials has greatly increased the amount of mechanistic data that can be collected, but tools for analyzing this increased information have lagged behind.

Developing new drugs to market has become so expensive that development costs are often prohibitive for narrowly targeted agents or niche indications. This situation can ultimately only be addressed by increasing the predictive power of preclinical test systems, and thus improving the success rate of clinical trials. Greater use of biomarkers, and increased computational intensity are two approaches that are beginning to address this problem.
